A corporate portrait assignment, this image was part of a series of portrait commissions by a multi-national chemical and plastics company. It was focused on employees and their interesting hobbies. This employee has been a woodcarver for decades, with a particular interest in birds and crabs.
This was a conference room - hardly an exciting place. But it acted as a blank slate of sorts! I was told the subject would be providing several of his carvings, and that they would be kept in the room overnight. The morning of the shoot, my assistant and I showed up quite early to make sure we could devote the necessary time to styling before the subject himself arrived.
