Kalanianaole Highway on Hawaii's island of Oahu runs along the southeast corner of the island and is dotted with lookouts and beaches that are among the best places to catch an early morning sunrise.
While clouds hanging low on the horizon kept this sunrise from really exploding it did cast beautiful purple and pink hues across the sky. I had tried this same shot as a long exposure but decided that the ripples across the tide pool conveyed the feeling of the always moving ocean. This relatively calm morning offered close access to the tide pools without the risk of getting drenched.
