No matter how often I get up there, this place never ceases to amaze me.

For this photograph I hiked off the beaten path, looking for a fitting foreground to illustrate the diverse vegetation of this mountain as well as the vastness of the landscape itself. Though the „Saualpe“ might not look like much, it offers much more than meets the eye.

One experience that I remember to this day, was seeing a herd of red deer grazing at the bottom of one of the many summits of this mountain. The herd consisted of about 120 male and female red deer, the largest number I have ever seen in the wild. Together with my dog I watched them as the sun slowly rose above the mountain tops in the distance. As it rose and the light became brighter, the deer slowly disappeared into the cover of the forest.
