Golden Days

One of my photography dreams finally came true in October 2018 - the dream to photograph a higher mountain in the last evening light, with yellow larches in the foreground and crazy colors in the sky.

Before I started the hike I wasn’t even sure if I would go, because I knew there were clouds everywhere and at first I didn’t know if it was going to clear up. Later on, the sky cleared and I was again disappointed - I needed at least some clouds for the sky to light up. But after I found my composition for that day I took a closer look at the weather forecast and the conditions around me. I knew there were clouds behind the mountains - the Dachstein massive - and I knew that they would eventually come up. Finally, before sunset I saw the first clouds rising up from behind the mountains - some of them even became high altitude clouds after a while. It was pretty fascinating seeing this all come together - the clouds, the light, just everything. That day I waited about three hours for this photo and it was absolutely worth it.
