The Andes from Chile’s Atacama desert looking east towards Bolivia. The Atacama is a stunning area featuring the driest desert on earth averaging 2-3 cm of precipitation annually. The surrounding Andes are also home to some of the most active volcanoes in the world. Several of the 16,000’+ peaks in this image are active with constant steam plumes emanating from the. The desert is a significant resource for lithium which of course is a crucial element for the batteries that power or cameras and other digital devices.
