I really love this type of low-contrast, softly backlit image. I am always on the lookout for opportunities where I may be able to create such an image with my wildlife photography, but those opportunities are extremely rare.

I know what you mean. But I also believe the ability to force your luck with such light. It is a matter of planning, I think. Just like this one

You have to know where the light is.
But I agree, animals won't listen and aren't always in the right spot :)

That is quite a beautiful Heron image, Nando!

And I know what you mean about forcing one's luck with the light ...... I have found that I have to shoot directly towards the sun when it is very low in the sky, and have the subject between me and the sun, like you did with the Heron.

But it is so difficult to do that here, because where I live is surrounded by mountains, and the sun disappears behind the mountains before it gets low in the sky with its golden light. So the only times I have any opportunity for this type of imagery is when I travel far from home.

Mountains... I wish we had some mountains here. If you want to get rid of those, just send it over to me ;)
Thanks for the compliment.
