This was one of my first interiors shoots after having studied Mike Kelley's videos on Architectural photography. Being a rookie, it took me about three hours to get the lighting just right, and about an hour to composite, but I and the client were happy with the results. Some shoot through umbrellas are used here to bring up the overall ambient. In addition, I used a speed light on a monopod to light paint in some focal points, and there was a Paul C Buff Einstein shooting in through the window to simulate sunlight. All these flash layers are blended with an ambient to reclaim some naturalness.
I still have a lot to learn, but I love the challenge!
Very well done Kim! I think you did a great job simulating the sunlight coming through the window. That really adds a lot to the overall mood. If this was one of your first interiors I can't wait to see what you're doing in 5 years :)

Wonderfull shot Kim. Beautiful fall off shadows from window and very nicely lit kitchen. Evenly filled shadows. did you use artificial light?
