One of my favorite images. This was created entirely in camera. No computer work. (digital photography had not been invented) Shot on Kodak Ektachrome 100T. The bike was mounted in a stand so the rear wheel could turn. Then it was lit with tungsten lights. Three separate exposures were made.
Exposure #1 with a red filter over the lens.
Then the shutter was re-cocked and the wheel turned slightly prior to...
Exposure #2 with a green filter over the lens.
Then the shutter was re-cocked and the wheel turned slightly again prior to ..
Exposure #3 with a blue filter over the lens.
The result is what you see here. The light was essentially 'taken apart' and put back together again. Moving one element of the image in between exposures. The tricky part was getting the color balance right so the whites would be white at the end of the process. This was done through trial and error by adjusting the shutter speed of the appropriate color to add or subtract any color cast in the final shot.
A little shout out to the F-stoppers peeps. The date field in the EXIF data does not recognize the date this image was shot - 10/15/1989.
Good photography actually existed then.
