I had the opportunity to participate in a night sky workshop at Sleeping Bear Dunes this past September. This was the last day and the last stop, well after midnight and only a small group of us made it here.
While most of the group had set up right at the corner of the house for a simpler composition, I didn't like my angle. So I stepped back with the intention just focusing on the barren locust trees agains the Milky Way. However, as I was setting up, I noticed I could place the light being used to paint the building behind one of those trees and capture this wider angle. I wasn't sure what it would ultimately look like, but I feel in love with it when post processing. The clouds moved in completely maybe 10 minutes after this picture was snapped.
