ancient maple in Hoh

If you've ever been to Hoh Rain Forest in Olympic National Park, you know it's like no other place in the states (that I've seen, anyway). We were hiking, not on a photography trip (no tripod), so it wasn't easy to get good shots handheld due to how dark it was.

This gnarled and twisted maple tree had enough breaks in the canopy to let some sun through, and I'm pretty happy with how this turned out. Although, there's no way I needed to be shooting at f/8 for this, so I could have got the shutter speed up or ISO down. Live and learn.
