It’s been five years since I’ve visited the concrete jungle. Since getting a new camera, my first Leica, I took a day trip to NYC to get some shooting in. With not being familiar with my new camera and being very new to shooting manual with manual lens, I really wanted to challenge myself with capturing movement. As cliche as this shot is, I wanted to get the classic subway shot where your subject is still but the train behind is blurred. I was always fascinated with shoots like this and something I have always wanted try, however in my dozens of times being in the city, I have never once stepped foot in a subway. I’m not sure why I was always fearful of going to one; probably from watching one too many Law and Order SVU episodes.

We actually spent a good while doing this shoot because it took me awhile to figure out shutter speed while adjusting the rest of the settings correctly. Since this was me trying something new, with gear I was totally unfamiliar with that I found challenging, in a setting that pushed me out of my comfort zone, I felt accomplished and extremely happy with what I was able to capture.
