Come in out of the rain

I very rarely shoot male models as my work has been very beauty photography centered lately and I don't get as much ideas with male makeup/props than female. However, once in a while I do enjoy changing things up and trying something different.
When I shot Sarah for a recent project (https://fstoppers.com/photo/60192), her boyfriend showed up to pick her up at the end of the shoot… I could let the opportunity go… I had this idea of a fake rain/mist for some time but didn't want to do it with a female model. I asked Thomas, the model for the day, if I could try something out. The time to setup the lights to get a cinematic feel/look and we were already shooting!

Sometimes, even the most improvised shoots or test shoots can turn out great :)

Very good composition, how did you made the dusty effect?

I had someone spray water over the model's head and used a rim light to make it more visible :)

Thanks for sharing, I will definitely try this too when I got a chance.

Note that depending on the flash duration of your strobes the effect will vary. I shot this with the Elinchrom ELC Pro HD at the shortest flash duration possible (1/5260th@t0.5). If your strobe(s) have a "long" flash duration you might end up with droplet lines instead of a dots ;)
