This Whitetail buck has chosen this doe as his mate, and courted her in this meadow during an early winter snowstorm. If all goes well, next June there will be a new set of twin Whitetail fawns frolicking around this meadow!
Thanks for my new-to-me Sigma 60-600mm superzoom for making this image possible. After shooting head shot portraits, I realized that I could zoom all the way out to capture a wider view and get the whole scene in the frame. It's pretty cool to be able to shoot tight close up wildlife portraits and wide scenic snowscapes with the same lens!
Truly a winter wonderland!
Tom, can’t believe I missed this image it glows … excellent! If you were close enough at this distance for head shoots with 600mm and a frame frame sensor and this image at 68mm your were close! You give your super zoom too much credit when your skills deserves more than your gear!
Thank you so much, Paul! I should post tight portrait image that I took of the buck.
EDIT: The tight head shot that I took of the buck, 3 minutes after I took this scene of the pair, was actually shot at 295mm, not 600mm. Ha! I had not remembered how close I was!
