Eltz Castle is a hilltop castle from the 12th century and one of the most famous of its kind in Germany. It lies 129 meters above sea level in the valley of the Elz, a left tributary of the Moselle, in the Rhineland-Palatinate municipality of Wierschem. The building has been owned by the noble Eltz family for more than 800 years and has been largely preserved. The castle is open to the public.
