This photo of a juvenile great spotted woodpecker was taken near Oss in the Netherlands. I was in a hide to photograph birds, the great spotted woodpeckers were regular visitors during the day. This juvenile was eating near the waters edge when it suddenly fell into the water. After it got itself out of the water it sat on this pine cone and flapped its wings to dry them off.
