Eruption

Our trip to Iceland had it all — breathtaking auroras, vibrant sunsets, majestic mountain vistas, and an endless array of stunning waterfalls. But one attraction we hadn’t anticipated was a volcanic eruption a day before our arrival. After a series of earthquakes, a volcano on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwestern Iceland erupted on August 22, 2024, and we could see it from the plane as we approached Keflavik Airport.

Photos captured with a DJI Air 2S drone, flown from about 3.5 km away.
