Delicate Arch

Among the photos I had in mind to capture during my trip along the West Coast, I was absolutely certain that the one I want to show you this evening was on the list.

For many years, I had seen pictures of this incredible place and felt that, one way or another, I had to visit it someday and, if possible, try to take this photo.

I remember that evening vividly. As I climbed toward the spot where the arch is located, I passed a few tourists coming down.

I imagined many of them might have found it strange to see someone heading toward an uninhabited area at night, equipped with a headlamp, a backpack, and a tripod.

As I got closer, I also wondered how I would manage to coordinate with other photographers to take this shot. Would there be five photographers? Ten? Would I even be able to capture the image I had envisioned?

When I finally arrived, I couldn’t believe what I found. The plateau where the arch stands was empty—completely dark. The day I had imagined so many times had finally come. I was alone there. Completely alone.

In the distance, I could see the silhouette of the arch.

Delicate Arch.
