Arches National Park, Utah

Park Avenue is the first vehicle parking area after entering Arches National Park, so this is a scene familiar to anyone who has visited the park. Living about a hundred miles away, I've been here numerous times, but the light is always different. On this particular bleak December day, the light was flat and the clouds had only a hint of color. It's really neither a black-and white picture as I was seeing in my mind when I made the exposure, nor a bold saturated color version that's popular with photographers, but a soft pastel-like image that has become my favorite for this location.
