Easter Screech Owl

Did he use the rule of thirds? I can rationalize that I did but…. I didn’t. This is the golden Ratio, or less often called the Fibonacci Spiral is composition I chose for this Eastern Screech Owl. I too often hear “you didn’t use the rule of thirds”. Composition is not black and white. I consider the rule of thirds the A of the ABCs. I like to take my time, considering the rules but more so trusting my eye. Fill the frame they say, and I listen but each scene is different and should be treated so. Rules should not be forgotten but when you train your eye to see it, it’s time to let go of the rules. Or you might end up with your photos looking like everybody else’s. Take your time and study your scene. It doesn’t matter what your subject is, what’s more important is what the light doing.
