Australian Pied Oystercatcher
Bribie Island, Australia
Pied Oystercatchers are non-migratory shorebirds that prefer mud flats, tidal zones and sandy beaches. Often found in pairs they protect their patch of beach from other bird species.
I spent an hour with this one as it probed the sand for crustaceans and worms. It was a particularly good afternoon as it retrieved several worms from beneath the sand.
Congratulations Russell, brilliant image, time is a necessity to good wildlife photography, patience and dedication helpful too.
Thank you Paul. I appreciate the comment and yes, patience is key.
Russell congratulations on "JACKPOT" Photo Of The Day!
Great photo!!! How muddy did you get?
Thanks Marian. Fortunately, not muddy at all. This Oystercatcher found himself a nice sandy beach to work on.
