Maramadi or Kalappoottu or Pothottam,is a bull/buffalo race conducted in the villages of Kerala India after the harvest season. A vast stretch of freshly ploughed paddy fields (kandams) form the 'stadium' for the race and it usually attracts people from far and wide. The image shows Jockey running in wet, muddy terrain with two buffaloes. The scene captures the intensity of the race, with mud splashing up around theanimals and rider as they charge forward. The rainy atmosphere adds to the drama and the rider’s determined expression gives the scene a sense of focus and energy
