"This shoot was purely inspired by and for a mock up denim campaign to add to my personal projects. I started with a mood board which consisted of several images from photographers that inspire me such as : Camilla Akrans and Richard Avedon. Stylistically I knew I could pull off the looks I wanted by finding the right beach, in this case it was a state beach in SoCal that is known for its epic surf breaks and it’s long sandy beach front (which you also park on.)
The set up for this was somewhat different than my usual since I wanted to double the suns exposure and keep that harsh light to her face since her facial contour was so bold and sculpted. To do this I threw my strobe in a thirty inch parabolic octa at full power and removed the diffusion cloth. I then raised it about five feet and boomed the light over camera left about three feet. During a long wait for hair and make up I decided this spot would be a killer scene to add in a surfboard, fishnets and my blanket to mix in with the whole spring jeans vibe. Then, we were ready to compete with the sun for some images and well, I’d say we did quite alright.
After we wrapped up the shoot we had a sweet picnic, some quality devotion time and then hit the road home. My final processing was simple. Retouch skin, curves layer, selective color layer, dodge and burn and that was that. Here is the final image :) Thank you for taking your time to do this and I hope this is good enough for your consideration. Thanks again and God Bless!" -Robert Meeks
