The Canon EOS R5 Versus the Nikon Z8 and Z9

The Canon EOS R5 and Nikon Z8 and Z9 are remarkable cameras that can tackle a huge range of genres and needs with ease, making them the workhorses of choice for countless creatives. Which is right for you, though? This great video comparison takes a look at all three cameras, how they perform in a challenging genre, and which is right for you.

Coming to you from Jan Wegener, this excellent video comparison takes a look at the Canon EOS R5, Nikon Z8, and Nikon Z9. All three of these cameras are quite popular, and for good reason, as the EOS R5 and Z8 in particular strike a sweet spot in that they offer pretty much all the features and capabilities demanded by modern creatives (high resolution, fast burst rates, top autofocus, great noise performance, and advanced video), but sit a tier below flagship bodies in terms of price. And bird photography is an excellent genre in which to test them out, as it places major demands on the camera, with ISOs frequently reaching into the high four digits (or even higher), challenging autofocus situations, and the need for lots of resolution to allow cropping flexibility. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Wegener.

Just the fact that the R5, released July 2020, is being compared favorably to the much newer Nikon offerings says a lot about Canon's second generation mirrorless. Full disclosure, I own an R5 and am very happy with it so you can take my post with how ever many grains of salt you wish. The R5II should be a dandy. ;-)
