Is the Canon R8 the Best Entry Level Full Frame Camera?

The Canon R8 is an affordable $1,500 full frame camera that is packed full of features. Is this currently the best entry-level full frame camera on the market for the price and how does it perform in wildlife photography? In this video, Simon d'Entremont covers the pros and cons in more detail.

The Canon R8 has some great specs for its affordable price such as 24.2MP full frame sensor, shooting up to 40 frames per second, 4K filming up to 60 fps, and 180 fps in 1080. The camera does not have a mechanical shutter and it has an electronic shutter only which allows the higher frame rates.

In the video d'Entremont discusses the camera in good detail, breaking down the main points he loves about the camera. Canon's autofocus is very good and this is certainly one point d'Entremont was impressed with. The camera has Canon's Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system, which provides great tracking for photography and video.

For anyone starting out in photography this camera is a great all-rounder, this could also be a great travel camera, use it for live streaming, or for professionals, it could serve well as a backup camera due to its one card slot and some other limitations.

Do you have this camera already or are you looking to buy one? Let us know in the comments.

It is not the best entry level FF mirrorless. The best entry level FF mirrorless is the Nikon Z5.

The Nikon Z5 does rate high for it's similar price point as well. What are your favourite things about the Z5?

I upgraded to the r8 from the 5dmiii. It's night and day...1500 was just too good a price with such a good sensor...the autofocus blew my mind...felt like I was coming out of the stone ages.

Hi Brady, glad you're loving the upgrade!

Simon is the best. So glad he's making an impression on y'all at FStoppers. Love the R8, though I am still shooting with my 5DSR. Thanks for all the knowledge and insights you share!!
