Nikon has made their way into more specialized mirrorless lenses in recent months, with the NIKKOR Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S being one such option. The 800mm f/6.3 might be one of the most competitively priced lenses in recent memory, and it offers top-shelf sharpness and portability on top of that. Of course, at $6,500, no one will argue that the 800mm f/6.3 is cheap, but as far as such lenses go, it is remarkably affordable (consider the Canon RF 800mm f/5.6 L IS USM, which costs $17,000). If you are worried about that slower aperture, remember that f/6.3 is only a third of a stop from f/5.6 and practically unnoticeable in real-world use. It sure seems Nikon is trying to lure wildlife shooters with such a portable and affordable supertelephoto, and I am sure it pairs beautifully with the Nikon Z 9 mirrorless camera.
