Ben Brewer
I am a photojournalist, specializing in the fields of editorial, multimedia, and documentary photography.
But, to be honest, I’m a bit of a contradiction.
Because despite my work as a freelance photojournalist over the past decade, I actually graduated from Grinnell College with a degree in Biological Chemistry. Yes. You read that correctly. A photographer with a penchant for biology, chemistry, and neuroscience.
After earning my degree, I honed my visual storytelling abilities around the country including working as a university Staff Photographer and interning at the Coeur d’Alene Press in Idaho and the Deseret News in Salt Lake City. After those early appointments had completed, I heard the siren song of the Midwest calling me home. I am now currently based in Madison, Wisconsin and freelancing for The New York Times, Reuters, and various editorial news outlets.
From professional sporting events to breaking spot news, I am a photographer who delivers skillfully-crafted, compelling imagery across a plethora of subjects with a creative AND analytical mind. Focusing on isolating peak moments of emotion, engagement, and access, I am an adventurous and motivated photographer that seeks to capture those minutiae that often slip by unnoticed. I am available for contract and freelance work in the Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois areas and interested in working on collaborative projects around the world.
