I got interested in photography when I was very young, around age 9. One of my uncles was a prominent photographer in the late 1960’s and he introduced me to the magic of film development. I remember watching in pure amazement as the images of beautiful women slowly appeared on the silver paper in his basement darkroom. As I grew older, I would follow him in his studio and on location, learning his secrets, learning to respect and understand light, learning to be patient and wait for the right moment.
I got interested in dancers and performers in the 1980’s, after falling in love with a young and very beautiful dancer. I started exploring the subtle ties between emotion and physical expression. There is something in the way we use our bodies to express our feelings that never ceases to amaze me, and I try to capture that in my images.
I hope you enjoy watching them as much as I enjoy making them.
