About Matthew

Matthew Cicanese (sick-uh-neez) is a National Geographic Explorer, Documentary Artist, and Emerging League Photographer with the International League of Conservation Photographers (iLCP). He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Experimental and Documentary Arts (MFA-EDA) from Duke University, in addition to a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Studies from Florida Southern College. In 2015, Matthew was named a finalist for the Environmental Photographer of the Year Awards and his work was featured internationally through media outlets including BBC Earth, New Scientist Magazine, and the Royal Geographical Society’s Gallery Exhibition in London. As a leader for professional photography workshops, public speaker, and conservationist, Matthew is a documentarian that works to educate people through a variety of storytelling methods (including digital photography, narrative film-making, audio journalism, drone cinematography, and immersive experimental media). Matthew is currently collaborating with Canon in his professional endeavors​, and his past/ongoing sponsors include Cochlear Americas, MindShift Gear, and Dilmah Conservation.​
