I started my life as an academic with a focus on History and Heritage here in the Caribbean. My main focus was on telling the story of our past as slaves and slave owners and explaining our present as a people desperately in need of equality.In the final year of my Masters Degree (2003) I applied and received a job at the oldest newspaper in Barbados, the Barbados Advocate where I would stay for a decade.After 2 years in the field as a writer, I picked up my first camera and began to document the stories I was trying to tell by myself. It was a Kodak Easyshare DX 7590 and it served a purpose as it had full manual controls and I was eager to learn everything I could about photography.It wasn't long before the publisher noticed my passion and handed me what I consider my first "real" camera, a Canon 20D with an 18-135mm lens. This is when I truly fell in love. Soon I received the 28-70 F2.8, then I bought my first camera, a Canon 30D with the nifty 50 (still in my bag) a flash and a true passion.Even full time as a journalist and photojournalist with the Advocate, I started making time on weekends to apprentice for all sorts of photographers, before finding a true passion for weddings. Something about photographing people on their happiest day and it's contrast from the harsher images I was making as a journalist just spoke to me.I worked as a part time photographer for a while... but now I'm full time... with absolutely no regrets.
