Michael Stief

Michael Stief is an internationally acclaimed photographer, educator, speaker, and system designer specializing in high-fashion maternity, newborn, and luxury portraiture.

Born on April 18, 1976, in Germany, Michael initially cut his teeth in the competitive editorial and fashion photography scene in New York City. His experience working on high-end modeling productions deeply influenced his artistic DNA, allowing him to inject elements of fashion lighting, dramatic posing, and sharp visual storytelling into the world of newborn and maternity portraiture.

Driven by a passion for raising industry standards, Michael transitioned into a global educator and mentor. His specialized training programs—covering newborn safety, intricate studio lighting, artistic composition, and premium business development—have influenced and shaped the careers of thousands of professional photographers across Europe, North and South America, Asia, and Australia. He has taken the stage as a keynote speaker and masterclass instructor at prestigious international photography conferences worldwide, including events in London, São Paulo, Barcelona, Moscow, and New York.

Beyond his visual artistry, Michael is a major architectural force in the global photography community. He is the founder and Creative Director of the AFNS Award (established in 2017), which has grown into one of the world's most prestigious and long-running international competition platforms for newborn and maternity photography. His focus on structural excellence led him to establish several other highly regarded industry platforms, including the International Newborn Photography Contest & Award (INPCA), the AFNS Prime Contest, the Aura Awards, and the Newborn Photographer Community (NPC).

As an active international juror, Michael has directed global panels alongside the industry's most respected names. Today, he operates the luxury Petit Amour Studio in Munich, Germany, where he continues to push the boundaries of photographic excellence, blending premium client experiences with award-winning visual craftsmanship.
