Patrick Cone
I started taking photographs when I was 16. I'm a native of Park City, Utah, and after earning a BFA in photographic design from Utah State University I moved to Los Angeles in 1977 where I worked with photographers such as Peter Sagara, Mario Casilli, Carl Furuta, Eric Meola, Pete Turner and many others.
After working in LA for 3 years I moved on to the Seattle area, where I worked as a helicopter copilot and navigator, which got me in the air to shoot aerials. I ended up flying around 6000 hours, and shot everything from the exploding Mt. St. Helens volcano to eastern cities. Afterwards I went to work for Flying Magazine as a photographer/writer, then Sunset, National Geographic World, Smithsonian, Arizona Highways and many, many others.
I was also the corporate photographer for Browning/Winchester and traveled the world photographed primarily bird hunting, plus all of their studio work.
Today I teach at the University of Utah Department of Communication, freelance, am the editor of six local magazines in Park City, and am the special projects editor at NationalParksTraveler.org
