Jordan Garbutt
So, this is about me..
I’ve lived in big cities, I’ve lived
in rural villages.
I’ve gone to big public schools,
I’ve been home-schooled.
What has that taught me?…
I could never be a farmer.
Growing up in a nomadic family has opened my eyes to what’s on this earth,
It’s given me adventures, turmoils , and taught me how to make a plan
with what’s available.
After graduating top of my class in Photography, I moved to Cape Town.
So began my assisting career at the bottom, literally rock bottom.
I was making coffee and washing dishes with the glorified title of “ 2nd assistant”.
I quit that job!
3 seasons later I have been on every kind of shoot imaginable,
from Stock Libraries, Lifestyle Campaigns, Catalogues
to Vogue Editorials and working with Annie Leibovitz.
Somewhere along the journey, I began to develop my own vision.
I wasn’t asking photographers, ‘How did you take that photograph?’
I was asking, ' Why did you take that photograph like that?’
I started to question everything that I had created, so I started over.
I have created something that is truly my vision, a body of work that speaks through situations.
Photographs that display what my heart feels and what my soul says.
