David Murphy
I've been working in visual and strategic communications in one form or another my entire adult life. I started my career as a photographer and graphic designer for the Marine Corps. After leaving the Corps, I took on multiple freelance jobs in New York City, working as a photojournalist for a newspaper and a photo agency. I eventually returned to the military, this time working for the Air National Guard as a visual information specialist. After getting my bachelor's degree in photojournalism from Syracuse University, I left the Air National Guard and commissioned into the Air Force as a public affairs officer.
Up until my retirement in June of 2025, I successfully led skilled professionals in capturing the Air Force's story. With the military behind me after 25 years, I've now become a free agent and have also started my own production company, Greet the Day Productions. My company has already produced a number of short films, and last summer we produced our first feature film, Generational Difficulties, which is currently in post production. We are hard at work preparing to create a number of other films, but we are always seeking out clients who need their stories told to the widest possible audience.
In addition to my professional endeavors, I also run a visual journalism discussion network called Around the Lens. Each week, we talk to working professionals in our industry to get their perspectives on what's happening in their lives and in the field in general.
