Focos Updates iPhone Portrait Mode App With Lens Effect Presets: Features Helios 44, Zeiss Otus, and More

Bokeh aficionados rejoice: iPhone Portrait Mode image editor Focos was updated today and added lens effect presets emulating your favorite SLR lenses. Additionally, you can even create your very own dream lens with out-of-focus characteristics you always wanted.

The new update adds 11 lens effects from favorites such as the Olympus Zuiko, Leica Noctilux, and the always interesting Helios 44. Creating custom lenses in the app gives you several options to tinker with including the creaminess and softness, plus more funky characteristics like a swirl effect from the Helios 44 or radial blur effect. You can even choose to add magenta-green or red-cyan chromatic aberrations into the out of focus areas with the RGB Shift tool. Has technology gone too far?

In messing around with a few images, it seems quite a few of the custom tools are broken. Hopefully this gets addressed in a future update, but for now I’m smashing that Helios 44 button left and right.

Focos presently runs on iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X. A stripped down version of the app is available for free, and a lifetime pro subscription can be purchased for $9.99. The new lens effects require a pro subscription, however you can trial it for two hours free.

This looks great. I'm kind of convinced now :D The dog picture with the Helios 44 looks great.

I like new filter very much! Photos with them are unusual and get many likes on my Instagram! The app has more features than standard iPhone camera, but it's sad that such great tool has bugs :( Some of them even described in QAwerk's blog https://qawerk.com/blogs/focos-for-ios/. Recently I had the issue with GPS usage. I think developers should fix them and update the app so that the users will be more satisfied.
