3 Podcasts You Should Be Listening to For Your Photography Business

3 Podcasts You Should Be Listening to For Your Photography Business

As creatives, we have to stay inspired, focused, and always be moving forward. Aside from focusing on creating beautiful, desirable work, if you want to survive doing what you love, you have to have a good business sense. For some of us, this comes naturally, for others it is a learning process. No matter what your experience with business is, you can always learn more. Between books, classes, and mentors, the options for learning are endless but between our personal lives, creating artwork, and what our budgets allow, the option aren't always as broad. Podcasts are an awesome, free way to learn about the business side of your craft. They can be informative, inspiring, and allow you to learn while you work. While there are tons of podcasts out there here are my top three favorite when it comes to the business side of photography.

The Business of Photography - Spouting Photographer Podcast

This is absolutely one of my favorite podcasts. In this series, hosts Brian Caporicci and Robert Nowell dive deep into the business side of photography. They interview some of the greatest photographers of our time and unveil the valuable information that makes these photographers so successful. With close to 200 30–45 minute episodes, Caporicci and Nowell share a ton of information. From marketing and sales tactics, to portfolio and website advice, the Sprouting Photographer Podcast is a great place to start.

Full Time Photographer with Josh Rossi

Another one of my favorite podcasts is Full Time Photographer with Josh Rossi. If you haven't seen Josh Rossi's work, I strongly encourage you to check it out. Rossi also covers the business side of photography, helping you to live life to the fullest by embracing a career in photography. He interviews amazingly talented photographers and other industry professionals to help listeners find ways to make more money, get bigger clients, and avoid mistakes others have made. With close to 300 episodes and with new ones each Tuesday, Rossi is constantly sharing valuable information to help your business grow.

Creative Warriors Podcast

In the Creative Warriors podcast, business coach Jeffrey Shaw interviews all types of creative entrepreneurs. Shaw brings inspiration and business practices as well as a variety of topics such as social media, marketing, time management, creativity, and out of the box business ideas. With close to 100 episodes, this podcast contains tons of useful information from established, talented, successful artists.

Extra: The Rubin Mindfulness Meditation

I included The Rubin Mindfulness Meditation podcast for when the stress gets to you, or things are just not going well. The Rubin is a podcast presented by the Rubin Museum of Art, where each Wednesday a meditation session is led by a teacher from the New York area. Listening to this podcast is a great way to ease stress, bring clarity to your life, and help you become a happier, more mindful person. It's not necessarily a business podcast, but I truly believe that a meditation practice can be incredibly beneficial to your business, artwork, creativity, and life.

As artists, creatives, and entrepreneurs we should always be pushing ourselves to progress and learn. Podcasts allow us to learn from experienced professionals while we are working, working out, on the go, or where ever you may be. Having a better, more streamlined, productive business allows you more time to focus on your photography. If you are serious about your business and your photography, check out these podcast as well as the hundreds of others out there. If you have any podcasts that you love, feel free to share them in the comments section below.

Thanks for these suggestions, definitely excited to check out Josh Rossi's podcast!

I touched on some podcasts I enjoy in a recent blog post as well, not necessarily photo specific, but still somewhat relatable: http://www.chipkalback.com/blog/five-photography-essentials

Anyone else have some good podcast suggestions? Can't wait for Serial to return :)

The 12 Elements Podcast is another strong one.

Was looking for Photography podcasts just the other day. Nicely timed.

I must check those out. Andrew Hellmich from AU has been producing great weekly photography business podcasts for a few years. Its up to episode 141, I've gained some great insights into the biz of photography http://photobizx.com/

I can also recommend the photobizx podcast

The Tim Ferriss show is a good one too...

I really like how Tim interviews his guests, his questions are always pretty methodical and relatable regardless of who he's interviewing
