The Importance of Learning to Let Go of Your Need for Control as a Photographer

When you're an amateur photographer, you have complete control over what you shoot, how you edit it, where it gets posted, etc. A lot of that changes when you go professional, though, and this insightful video talks about why it's so important that you go with the flow when that happens.

Coming to you from Daniel Norton, this great video talks about the need to let go of absolute control as a professional photographer, especially if you go into commercial work. The simple truth is that a lot of the time, you will be one mechanism in a larger chain that produces the final product, and as such, you won't have total control over how it looks, which can be very frustrating when you're someone with strong creative vision who invests a lot of themselves in their work and takes a lot of pride in the finished product. It can be even more frustrating when someone posts one of your shots with a terrible Instagram filter. We can do our best to educate clients in the situation, but the truth is that we'll never have absolute control over how images get used and manipulated once they're out there. Check out the video above for Norton's full thoughts.
