Stunning Imagery Created With Only Mobile Devices and Apps

The mobile phone has changed photography forever; the smartphone’s camera is the most used feature for the majority of users. Not only have they become the most convenient way to take photos, they’ve also become damn good at taking them, as shown in the annual iPhone Photography Awards.

Photographers from all over the world submitted their photos to the eighth annual contest; here are the parameters:

All images must be taken with an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. The photos should not be altered in any desktop image processing program such as Photoshop. It is OK to use any iOS apps.
The use of any iPhone is permissible. iPhone add-on lenses can be used. In some cases, we may ask the original image to verify that it’s taken with an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

It is really amazing how far smartphone and tablet cameras have progressed in a little under a decade now and what the microscopic device can capture. IPPAWARDS Creator Kenan Aktulun was thrilled with the results:

This year’s entries were especially impressive, ranging from intimate, thought-provoking moments to stunning, captivating imagery.

The contests and winners were placed in categories as shown below:

I like how they restrict the competition to Apple devices only especially in that there is far better cameras on both Android and Windows Phone, and both can take RAW images. Doesn't take away from the fact though in that the above there is some amazing imagery.

anyone know why this comp is restricted to apple devices only? is apple the sponsor?

People that complain that the competition is only for Apple products... When the contest is.... iPhone Photography Awards.

ah. so thats what ippa stands for.

well, still not interesting to me. same with the leica, hasselblad etc etc competitions.
where is the white men only photography comps? or blacks? or asian?

I think its great... Its iPhone only, I'm sure there are Android only competitions as well. This isn't about pro photography in the wedding/high art/medium format sense... If this was a pinhole photography competition would people complain that its crappy non-professional low-grade imagery? Its a means to an end... If this was open to highend highres money is no object cameras, it wouldn't be fair would it? and the point of the competition would be "guy who takes photo with the highest resolution, most professional, most expensive camera wins" for me this is about framing, camera eye, vision... similar to the Pro Photographer - Toy camera challenge. You can download the app that lets you control the camera in a manual sense. Andy Warhol took polaroid's... some (ok maybe all) are worth a lot of money. or should they be trashed? he didn't control the settings... they must be crap.

whatever camera you can use or/and buy, if you have no creativity you're still blind. I'not Iphone guy and never will, but some of those pics from this contest are amazing. The hasselblad contest is amazing too, but emotional pictures are not sticked to the pixels or sharpness........
