Although seamless backgrounds can create one of the simplest photography setups, there were a wide variety of images that were taken for this week's episode of Critique the Community. Were the images judged fairly in your opinion?
Congratulations to the winners of the this weeks episode. Jonathan menezes submitted the highest rated image and Felix Hernandez was chosen as the random entrant to win a free Fstoppers tutorial. I will be in touch with both of you to claim your prize.
If you'd like to join us for the next episode, we invite you submit images which were taken with constant or hot lights HERE. This means you should not submit an image taken with flash.
So, the black and white portrait around the 38 minute mark was mine.
The expression was fully intended as it was part of a steampunk series where she also had a rifle, a sabre and some other probs to give a cool, serious look
the glasses are welders glasses which are a standard prob in steampunk photoshoots ;)
Heya, the snake picture is mine. (Same one as the "wood frog") It's one of my pet snakes and shot like Patrick said.
Large softbox camera right, medium softbox camera left and a backlight.
Lee can you tell me what looks off about the lighting? I'm very curious :)
Glad to hear this! Nothing completes my day like nailing a lighting setup Lee says looks "fishy and composited" haha
Im sorry to say, but this critique was bullshit in my book, I mean how many times can you vote on people's faces when there were alot more and better portraits out there! Come on Lee and Patrick! Really? PATRICK COULDNT EVEN REMEMBER, what the critique topic was.... And NO EXPLINATION as to why it took so long on the contest video coming out! No im not a sore looser, I just think something else is going on?
Huh? We release these every week or two. I think the problem was I didn't articulate what I was thinking in my head and that was images shot against a clean background that either uses the background or is then used to composite it against another background.
I personally picked out the images and thought I picked out the strongest ones of the group. No funny business going on; David will pick out the next images and prob guest in the critique next week.
Lee Morris and Patrick Hall , thanks for the critique. Plus, it was a lamb :) Patrick, you totally got that the shallow focus was to put
Emphasis on the farmer . Lee, totally ok that you didn’t like it. I go back and forth on it too! But I love that you guys realized it was a normal human being. That’s who I photograph, plain ol’ farmers in their fields and pastures :)
Your work is greatly appreciated and it's always nice seeing amazing images of normal people. Totally dig it!
Hey,
I'm curious as how you picked the winning image when there were 2 images with the score of 3.7?
BTW, cool critique as usual
hey patrick the highest rated image reminds me of your moon boots haha!
Looks like the girl in the more yellow/orange looking portrait, number three, you are saying the light wasn't high and it was as far as I can see. Checking the catch light in her eye shows the light is way up above her to her left...what did I miss?
