If you don’t know him by name, you’ll likely have laid eyes on his work. Getty photographer Chris Jackson is the man behind many of the official images of the British royal family and has now spoken of Prince Harry and Megan Markle’s engagement photos.
They’ve made several very public appearances following the news of their engagement last week – the first of which was captured by Jackson, who told Town and Country Magazine it “certainly brightened up a grey and chilly morning here in London!”
He says that after a tension-filled few weeks, the announcement came as a surprise. The news only adds to what is set to be an exciting year for Jackson; the Prince and Markle are due to get married in May 2018, meanwhile William and Kate – whom Jackson also regularly photographs – are expecting their third child who will undoubtedly need portraits.
It’s a great feeling to have a ‘feelgood’ story like this, and the promise of a royal baby AND a wedding in 2018 certainly excites a royal photographer such as myself!
Jackson’s favorite photo from the couple’s first public appearance is the below image, with Harry looking towards his excitable fiancée. Speaking of the photo, taken in the sunken garden outside Kensington Palace, Jackson said: “In this picture, Meghan just looks so happy as she holds tight on to her fiance’s arm displaying her impressive engagement ring, designed by Prince Harry and using diamonds from Princess Diana’s collection."
And Jackson couldn’t be happier to document what he calls “a historical moment”, as the young couple is “fantastic” to photograph.
