DJI has just released its first-ever first-person racing drone, making these devices that little bit more accessible to the broader market. The new DJI FPV Drone works out of the box and costs $1,299 when purchased with the remote control unit and goggles. Here are 10 reasons to be excited.
Until now, racing drones have been regarded as fairly specialist pieces of gear, but by blending it with a lot of the technology found in its popular Mavic series of drones, DJI seems to have created an FPV drone that has broad appeal. You can only hope that people will put the hours in when learning how to use these devices, as mass-market drones were already dangerous enough without people trying to fly them through tight spaces in densely populated areas at almost 90 miles per hour.
The DJI FPV Drone shoots 4K60p and 1080240p video at 120 Mbps and offers H.264 and H.265 codecs, as well as stills from its 12-megapixel, 1/2.3” sensor. It can achieve speeds of up to 87 miles per hour (140 kph) and offers a maximum flight time of 20 minutes.
