At Milan Fashion Week 2018, it’s safe to say everyone was expecting innovative designs and presentations. Dolce and Gabbana, however, took it a step further by replacing models with drones in order to take its handbags down the runway.
The Italian fashion house is reported to have enlisted at least eight quadcopter drones for usage during the show to carry their latest leather collection. The drones stopped part way down the runway in order for its audience to admire the designs in greater detail. The drones themselves weren’t without decoration, with each one sporting a large, allegedly fake gemstone on top.
Given the rarity of drones being used in such a manner, it is perhaps unsurprisingly that the show did encounter some technical hitches. The presentation began 45 minutes late, following a series of announcements calling for all WiFi connections to be turned off. Once the drones had finished, human models returned in order to showcase Dolce and Gabbana’s latest clothing designs.
Clothing company Betabrand had previously used drones back in 2015, which received scathing reviews from GQ, who commented at the time: “Seriously, tech bros. Stay in your lane, we'll stay in ours."
