Using a Drone to Stage an Amazing UFO Photoshoot

They say there's nothing new under the sun, and perhaps they're right. But with a little innovation, you can certainly create some less old.

The rise of the drones (which incidentally is a great movie title) has been interesting viewing for everyone in the photography community. It has unlocked difficult and creative angles for all brands of photography, and at a consumer level. It was never going to be long before people decided to stop strapping cameras to them, and experiment with other things, like powerful lights.

Hayden Pedersen (and friends) staged a shoot with a UFO theme, using an industrial grade drone. This is no Mavic and as a result, the shots came with a number of logistical difficulties. For that reason, and as Pedersen points out, it is a testament to the old adage of "if you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." This is not the sort of shoot that can be pulled off alone.

Not exactly sure what was the point of all the traveling and meeting when at the end of the day, he just Photoshopped everything (atmosphere, UFO, lighting) but the model.

When I did it the local farmer drove up to us to ask if we were using it to steal sheep (using a DJI Inspire 1 with an torch taped to the back of it)!

I prefer this shot without all the photoshop. Nice job
