4 Important Elements of a Good Image

An effective and compelling photo takes a combination of qualitative factors and solid technique, and it can be difficult as a beginner to find a balance between all those things. If you are new to photography and interested in improving your images, check out this fantastic video tutorial that discusses four crucial aspects that make a memorable shot.

Coming to you from Peter Forsgård, this excellent video tutorial discusses four important aspects of a good image. Of them, I think the one that is easiest to overlook is the background. With something like portraiture, for example, we often get extremely focused on the subject — posing, lighting, etc. — and in doing that, we lose sight of the background. When I first started, it was not uncommon for me to come home and realize that there was something distracting in the background that I did not even realize was there when I took the shot. Now, I have made it a habit to check all four corners of the frame to ensure I scan the entire composition; I will often find I need to adjust things just a bit. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Forsgård.

I enjoyed this! Thank you.

Very good points were made but his video style is pretty hilarious. What's up with all the walking into the frame and leaning against trees and buildings, etc,? The opening shot on the bridge is ok. I almost rolled onto the floor laughing when he walked from behind that big tree and stumbled into position nearly losing his footing. Examples of what he was explaining were also missing and would have helped illustrate the points he was making. But the elements he discussed were all very important.

I agree, more examples using his location would have been nice.

Peekaboo!! This guy is hiding everywhere! Good topic and what he has to say is good but my god all that's missing is a flash of smoke before he appears!
