Coming to you from James Popsys, this helpful video details some common traps it's easy to fall into as a photographer and how to recognize and avoid them. I think Popsys makes a great point about getting too absorbed in methods, rules, and technical perfection. It's of course important to understand what makes a good photo and to have a sound grasp of fundamentals like how to create a proper exposure, but I've often caught myself so caught up in those details that I forget to just use my instinctual eye to find compelling or unusual subject matter that piques the viewer's interest. Remembering to follow your instincts can help you break free from becoming too formulaic or generic in your image-making and to rediscover your personal creative voice. Be sure to take time to train your creative eye in tandem with your technical eye. Check out the video above for more helpful tips.
