How to Use Your Photos to Tell Stories

Of course, having technical skills and the ability to craft a well-exposed and edited photo are important, but if your images are not telling a story, viewers will not find them compelling. This fantastic video will show you how to improve the storytelling in your photos.

Coming to you from James Popsys, this excellent video discusses how to tell better stories in your images. The importance of compelling storytelling in photography really can't be overstated. After all, how many times have we seen slightly out of focus or blurry images that we still value because of their visual interest? Sure, we would all love it if every photo was perfectly exposed and immaculately sharp, but the fact that technical flaws can be overcome by the story an image tells underscores just how important the latter is. The difficulty, however, is that unlike technical parameters that can be objectively quantified, the idea of telling a story is a bit more subjective, nebulous, and personal to each photographer, but it can still be practiced and improved just as much as your ability to take an in-focus photo or set the proper shutter speed. Check out the video above for the full rundown.
