How does this shot need work
I don't understand the people that rate this stuff
For me, it's that the edges are cut off...the tail and the fins. Also, it's a bit muddy for a b/w IMO.
I see what you're saying with the fins and tail. Although I think the real interest in the photo are those smaller fish so I can deal with the fins and tail being a little short. If those fish weren't there I would 100% agree with you.
Thank you all for your comments. I dont pretend to be a proffessional uw photographer. Rather a keen amatuer. In response to your comments: the cutting off of the fin tips and tail was a necessary choice due shooting with a wide angle lens and not a fish eye lens. The ray is feeding on plankton which has the unfortunate effect of reducing visibility so backing away from the ray to capture the fin tips would have reduced sharpness. This is also the cause of the "mudiness". I could have removed the muddy look to the water in post but chose to keep it as it reminds me of the actual mood of the scene at the time. I know this image wont appeal to everyone but i like it
Its a "butt" shot. Granted its a cool manta ray, still a photo of a butt.
