It was probably this ladybug's first ever flight
This image was taken during spring right after ladybugs in my area had started emerging from their pupal state into adults. I had already extensively photographed larvae and pupae over the previous couple weeks and was jones'ing to get some photos of newly formed adults.
I d found a nice specimen near a discarded larvae shell. I set up my lighting behind this leaf and was adjusting it when suddenly the insect started behaving erratically. I lifted my camera up and just as I pressed the shutter button the ladybug flew away. I looked at the photo and my jaw dropped at how the lighting looked, and how I was able to get the insect in focus as it flew away when I had exactly one chance.
Pure luck.
