Sleek, sexy, and refined, the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione charges through the snow and ice, its proud 4.7 L V8 trumpeting its arrival. Headlights slicing through the dense atmosphere, it’s rare Italian zest is undeniable. Stark against the cool tones of a scene set in the sub-zero depths of winter, the Alfa’s striking pearl yellow finish glows with the ambiance of a precious gemstone.
Using a 1:18 scale-model Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione generously loaned to me by Will Detterman, I recreated this vision assisted by Viewpoint School photography teacher, Charlie Sitzer, in his studio space.
All the practical effects such as snow, rain, and fog, as well as the foreground and background were all captured in camera and blended together in post. The unique texture on the foreground was a happy accident of an accidental spill of dry ice-infused water freezing onto a dusting of fake snow.
We shot the images using a high megapixel Nikon D810 with the tack sharp Nikkor 200 f4 lens. Edited using Adobe lightroom and photoshop. Lit using Astra litepanels.
The printed background image is a composite from all my own photographs shot on a Canon 6D Mark II.
