1.6 - "Needs Work"

I was hired to do photos of the executives and ceo of a gas company. This was a picture of the ceo with one of his favorite wines from his collection. This was one of the last images of night at his house. It is a simple two light setup. All the shots were run and gun with no preplanning.

The one thing I don't think works in this is the partial art piece to the right side. If it had been taken slightly to your right separating the shot with exclusively the wine room totally as the background, I think that would have been more effective.

Yeah I can see that. We chose to keep it in because we wanted it to be authentic to his home. Im thankful for your comment tho. I had a lot of one stars on all 3 images even tho you can tell there were lighting used. Even in this one there is one light on him one inside the wine cellar. I just get confused on what needs work/is a snap shot when the same photos companies pay thousands for. Im not saying these are the best photos ever nor are they the best I ever took. I just wish I knew what the community finds to be good or not. If it is on my website take it off but lets say this company puts it on a billboard now its 3 star?

Hey Nick, I think Gary has a good point about the photo. I think it also maybe gets a low score because of the first thing I noticed, which is that it doesn't look straight. It looks like the tops of the door sides, and the moulding above the brick are slanted clockwise a few degrees. The table looks even more slanted due to camera tilt, but maybe also due to perspective. Either way, I think you are getting marked down pretty heavy for those to start.

In terms of the critique I should crop in past everything and resubmit?
