I think the current overall rating is far too low. I like the composition, the smile, and the general feel. You would be criticized for the bright spot of light on his mouth and chin as improper lighting, and I have criticized photographers for doing that, especially lighting women... but I actually kinda like it here from an aesthetics standpoint. This photo tells me a lot about who this person is and that's what a portrait should do. I'd give it a five if it weren't for the light on the chin as a "technical fault".
